03 Axial Wraith Modification!

I have mods my Wraith from last article, I brought to field and had fun with it!! Willy, jump and etc!

I have used 3cells 1200mA Lipo batteries and had no problems!! current set up isnt so heavy so I had no issue of heat or burn the ESC or motors!!

*Even on the grass, I had had very much fun!!

You can willy with 3cells lipos! Really good, impressive!!


Jump and hit, I had problems with the dog-bone! I thought the plastic knuckles and C-hubs made this problems, I need to mod mod!!


I had fun during the day with my sons!

Let's start modifying the Wraith this time too!!

This time, I am going to install RC4WD XVD Axle shafts for Wraith [Pair] And Vanquish Products Wraith Front Alum-Knuckles!

*Start installing the VP knuckles and XVD axle shafts!!
HD Steel XVD is one of very impressive items to install to the Wraith. it can give you 50 degree of steering angle! Exciting!


*Grease up the XVD!
I start from greasing up the XVD, I used Vaquish Products Star Lube V2! After putting Lube, I used tooth brush to fill into deeper places!!


*VP Front Knuckles!!
Vanquish made really good shape knuckles for Wraith! You probably know the XR10 and Wraith uses same C-hub, that means, you can also use Wraith knuckles to XR10 and also, opposite ways. If you want more steering angle to XR10, this knuckles are the one you might want to use!! Be careful when you use Wraith knuckles to XR10, you will probably need to grind down some edges of CVD's.


*Taking off the stock knuckles!!
There are 2 screws on top and bottom to take off the knuckles, 2mm hex driver you will need to use! See the picture below, plastic knuckles and hex hub and dirt made this mess! I felt I need more maintenance!


*Installing VP Knuckles!!
Take off the ball bearing from the stock knuckles and put on!! No difficulty, just put where it were! Dont forget to put flange pipes when you put the knuckles!


*Taking off the dog-bones!
When you want to take off the dog-bones, you will need to take off the screws for the link mounts. just take off 2 screws with 2.5mm hex driver and slide out dog-bone, slide in XVD!


*Installing RC4WD XVD!
Sliding the XVD in to the axle, that all you need to do! build up what you have done 5 min ago, opposite! really easy!!


*VP Knuckles and RC4WD XVD installed!!
50Degree, really impressive steering angle I got! I am really excited to try out! No hassle, great looking steering parts!!


*Steering linkage installed!
I didnt change steering linkage for now, I think I will need in the near future, but not now!! just put 2mm hex screw and 5.5mm nut driver to put it back together!


*I put parts to parts box bought from $0.99 shop!
I manages the parts by cars, I think this is the best ways to manage parts by cars. you can bring this parts box with your Wraith so that something happens, really helps!!


Put some stickers from the Wraith, Wraith Logo makes me excited! This parts box is no longer $0.99 shop thing, this is Wraith thing!!


*Modifying tires and wheels!
To run fast, no weight tires are really good for jumping and etc, but I dont feel and couldnt do good job at rock fields, so I decided to install weight to the tires!! Cut the tires with xacto!!


Cut between rim and tire with a lot of pulling power make it really easy!!


*Installing internal weights to the stock Wraith Rims!!
I used Axial 2.2 Internal wheel weight 57g [AX30545] And Axial 2.2 Internal weight inserts 21g [AX30546]! Very clean install! I put all inserts to the front wheels and only 2 insert to the rear wheels!


This is how it looks like! I put pretty much weights, so that the drive shafts are something I have to think about, but I will try out first!!


*Glue the tires back!!
After installing the weights to the  wheels, I glued back the tires with super glue! I recommend something like Proline premium blend super glue (15-20Sec) , so you dont have to rush glue the tires, just take time and do work!!


* I have changed softer spring to the front!
I have experienced that the wraith didnt have soft susupension so that when I try to climb the small rocks, always roll and roll. I decided to install soft spring, Axial 14x70mm 1.75 lbs Springs [AX30225]! This spring makes rig much softer front suspension!


*Changing the shock mounted place!
I need more stroke!! so I decided to adjust shock position!!

Stock position to .....


Adjusted mount place! arrows you more stroke to your shocks!!


I did same thing to the rear shocks!! Need to take off the body panels!! use 1.5mm hex driver to take off the body panels and 2mm hex drivers to take off the shocks!!


*Oh Yea! Mods are done, bring outside and try out!!
Steering knuckles, XVD drive shafts, shock springs and adjusted the shock position! Now, suspension stroke is just what I wanted and looks really good!!

*About the batteries!
I am going to try out the 4cells this time, no matter AE-2 burns out, I need to test!! I will report soon!!
