Axial Honcho RTR Mods!
Axial Honcho Trail Ready is great RC Rock Crawling package!
As you can see, it includes 2.4Ghz Transmitter and Receiver also, great performance AE-2 Speed controller! You can enjoy Honcho just taking out from the box!
But we will modify the Honcho Trail Ready to have more fun without a problems!
This is what you get! Just opened box! Too cool!!
Good suspension travel!
Axial AE-2 Speed controller is already installed! It has drag brake, voltage cut off for Li-po Batteries!
Now, Lets mods the Honcho!
1. Change servo horn!
Axial Honcho RTR has plastic servo horn, so if you crush, you can easily brake your servo horn, so I decided to change it before it broke!
To have better reach to servo, I decided to take off one of the front shock! [Use 2mm hex driver]
If you take off one of the front shock, you can easily reach to the servo.
As you can see, Aluminum Servo horn left is much better strength than stock plastic servo horn! Great mods for the first step!
There are no difficulty to install the servo horn. just take off, put it back on! [use 1.5mm and 2mm hex driver and also 5.5mm box wrench]
Finished!
No more trouble with the servo horn! Have fun!!
2. BEC power improvement with Castle Creations CC-BEC10A!
I decided to install CCBEC-10A, because stock AE-2 doesnt have enough power to supply high torque servo, LED light system and Receiver!
Here we go!
Take off 2 screws! [Use 2mm hex driver]
Below the battery tray, you can see 2 more screws to take off. [Use 2mm Hex driver]
Finally, you can reach to the radio box! [Use 2mm hex driver]
These are what inside of the radio box. Light controller and receiver is clean installed.
Use Xacto to take the middle red wire which is plus cable from speed controller.
Shrink the Red cable. [Use Shrink tube]
I plug the CCBEC10A to the 3rd channel and nicely put into the radio box! Now, you can close the radio box and also the battery tray.
I used Tamiya Connectors for this project!
I soldered the red cable from the CCBEC10A to AE-2 Red wire. also done to the black cable too.
Put metal connector to the end of the cable, dont make mistake male and female connectors!
Finally, done with clean installation!
All done! Great looking Honcho is powered up!
I decided to use 2cells 7.4V 4,000mA Li-po for this Honcho Trail ready. great performance and sit really good on the battey tray!
All done for now, you can upgrade with your project aimed, lots of fun!
Go out and have fun!!!
